One of our latest projects has been designing the bar area and shop of the Dutch bouldering gym GRIP in Nijmegen.
When it comes to their bouldering area, GRIP is one of the frontrunners of Dutch bouldering gyms. Their walls and hold sets are top-notch, and they have an extensive training area and competition wall. This has always been their main focus, what resulted in a high quality bouldering gym, but also in a bar and hangout area that was not on the same level as the rest of the gym. In 2020, they decided to change this and asked Wildflower to re-design their non-climbing area, including the entrée, the bar and lounge area and the shop. Their goal was to create an inviting atmosphere that would include every part of the gym into their concept.
Jørg Franken and Peter Kuyt, the same team that had made the design for the Revolt bouldering gym, started brainstorming about the plans they had. Their main focus was to let the customers feel invited by the coherence of the gym. To add an atmosphere that would be fitting with the high-quality bouldering area of the gym. Many ideas went back and forth until they settled on the theme for the design, which they then continued to work out into detail. Check their design below to see the final result.
